Ice by Lyn Gardner

It took me several reading sessions to get through the first part of Ice, the prologue and first chapter. I just didn’t click with it after reading these first pages. But then, on a relaxed evening by the fire, I picked it up again.

Boy, am I glad I did. Ice is one of the most thrilling lesbian romance books I have read so far. It has a great mix of the edge of your seat scenes, dramatic twists and relatable and believable emotions. A real page-turner.

Detectives Maggie and Alexandra have a very different style. Alex wants to do her job as a cop, no matter what. Maggie, however, wants to play by the rules. After a dramatic event, the two women stop talking to each other.

Three years later, they are asked (or forced, really) to get on a plane together for an important case. Both detectives are extremely reluctant to spend time together, but there’s really no choice.

And then the rollercoaster starts. I really don’t want to share much about the story. You should enjoy it for yourself as much as you can! Ice will keep you on the edge of your seat for most of the book.

If you’re up for a thrill, go read it now. If you’re afraid it’ll be a superficial thriller, don’t be. The characters are well developed and relatable. I suspect a lot of the suspense, for me, comes from actually caring so much about Maggie and Alexandra. I might have cried here and there. Ahum.

You’d almost forget about the romance part after all my babbling about this suspenseful survival story. But let me tell you: it’s there. And it’s good! The chemistry between Alex and Maggie is amazing. Their dialogues credible, intense and very funny at times.

So, you get the gist of things: give this book a chance! Don’t judge it based on the sample only, or the back cover if you’re going old school paper style. Sit back, buckle up and let Ice take you on its rollercoaster ride.
