Redemptio Animae by Sydney Gibson

Redemptio Animae Sydney GibsonCan someone please turn this lesfic bookĀ into a movie? This novelĀ is crazy! Itā€™s intense, exciting, challengingĀ and justā€¦very unique. The romance storyline is great, the characters are well developed. The second storyline? Science fiction and religious nut jobs. Yup, quite different from the usual lesfic plot.

So, whatā€™s the story?

ā€œCatriona ā€œKitā€ Witmer was a shooting star in the Secret Service. When a high profile detail goes horribly wrong, her career is derailed, leaving her to fall into a bottle. Claire Avondale is a Senator in need of discreet protection that falls outside of the normal security details offered by the government.

When Kit is hired by Claire to be her bodyguard, she is forced to face her demons, as their mutual attraction escalates and Claireā€™s own secrets are revealed. Will Kit be able to save herself and Claire from the enemy hell-bent on destroying them? ā€œ (Source: Amazon.com )

I really love how Gibson throws caution to the wind in Redemptio Animae. Itā€™s very different from other lesbian romances Iā€™ve read. She has a distinct and unique style of writing and storytelling. I applaud her for this bold style. I knew this book was going to stand out from the crowd after just 2 minutes of reading.

Some of the things that make this book stand out from the crowd:

-It really is a full-fledged sci-fi thriller, instead of just a lesfic romance story
-The book has two first person narratives, which was a first for me
-The story is long but a real page turner until the end
-The author makes some bold, over-the-top choices that you either hate (ā€œThatā€™s soooo unreal!ā€) or absolutely love (ā€œOmg, she didnā€™t! Haha!ā€)
-The characters are far from perfect. Not in an acceptable way, no, they are *really* flawed. Hopeless drunk and nutty professor flawed.

All these things make the book a thrilling read. I felt like I was reading ā€˜I Am Pilgrimā€™ instead of a lesbian romance book. Seriously, I felt like I was laying on the beach and reading my yearly summer thriller. It was wonderful.

Butā€¦Complete lack of editing

There is one major downside to this book and it will stop a lot of people from reading it right now: a total lack of editing. This book has mistakes and typos on almost every page. And yet, I still wanted to read it and could not stop reading it.

For me, the story was far too riveting to get annoyed by something ā€˜smallā€™ like grammar ;). And I’m not the only one: check the Amazon and Goodreads reviews! But the author did let me know sheā€™s working on a new version with better editing. You might want to wait for that. (I didn’t want to. I was already hooked.)

I would want to hear/see this story again!

If an audiobook version of this book comes out, Iā€™ll buy it instantly. If a movie comes out based on this book, Iā€™ll watch it instantly. If ā€¦Well, you get the picture. I loved this book.
